Youth of the 6th grade and above who have made their First Holy Communion are invited to participate as Altar Servers, assisting the priest at the altar during liturgies, funerals, weddings, and other special occasions.

History of the Altar Server

The ministry of Altar Server has been part of the Eucharist since the second century. For most of the Church's history this service has been provided with reverence and dedication by youth and men in the interest of vocations to the priesthood.

In 1994, the National Conference of Catholic Bishops implemented the Holy See's decision to permit women and girls to serve at the altar.

We continue to encourage boys and girls who are Altar Servers to consider a future in the priesthood and religious life.

Training

The Altar Servers meet periodically to update their service and to train new Servers. The purpose is so that all who assist in the liturgy may participate fully in the sacrifice of the Mass, and carry out their duties with reverence and care.
