The code of canon law requires that every parish have a Finance Committee to advise the priests in determining the use of the material wealth and goods of the parish. At St. Hyacinth, this is done in conjunction with the pastor and the Pastoral Council, in keeping with the mission, goals and objectives of the parish.

The major areas of responsibility are development of the annual budget; review of parish financial statements to monitor revenue and expenses, and promote fiscal responsibility;  encourage support of the parish through responsible stewardship;  update parish records via periodic census;  inspect and recommend repairs and additions to parish properties;  long range planning (3-10 years) for the financial and physical needs of the parish;  and, finally, to report on the financial status of the parish to the parishioners on a periodic basis.

The Parish Finance Committee is expected to bring a healthy note of fiscal realism and practicality to such decisions.  Members of the Committee need no special financial skill, only a willingness to serve. The Finance Committee meets quarterly.
