CHAPEL OF PERPETUAL ADORATION

On June 3, 1980, the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Hyacinth Church opened a small prayer chapel where the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for adoration 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The chapel is located in the north wing of the main church building, with its entrance facing the rectory. There, you can participate in this devotion in a number of ways:

bulletBy making an occasional Holy Hour or even just a short visit spent in silent prayer and private meditation.

bulletBy committing to one of the 168 hours of the week, agreeing to be in attendance at the chapel for that designated hour every week. Ideal is to have at least two people committed to each hour.

bulletBy becoming a chapel coordinator. The success of the chapel depends on a group of 28 dedicated individuals, each of whom is responsible for an assigned 6-hour block of time. If one of the regular adorers cannot be at the chapel for his hour, for example because of illness or travel, he must arrange for someone to take his place. If he cannot find a replacement for his hour, he should call the coordinator responsible for that block of time, who will serve as his replacement, or help him find a substitute. Please remember that the Blessed Sacrament exposed in the monstrance must never be left unattended!

A notification of any unfilled ("open") hours in the chapel is published in the Sunday bulletin, along with phone numbers to call for information. Keep in mind that you may commit to any hour of the day or night. You are not limited to the hours listed in the bulletin as "open."

In the words of Pope John Paul II, "The best, the surest, and the most effective way of establishing peace on the face of the earth is through the great power of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament."

INSTRUCTIONAL INFORMATION

What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Eucharistic Adoration is an expression of our love for Jesus, who loves us so much that He never wants to leave us and so stays with us day and night in the Blessed Sacrament. For He says: "Behold I am with you always," because "I have loved you with an everlasting love. And constant is my affection for you." (Mt 28:20; Jer 31:3).

Pope John Paul II, in his first encyclical letter, Redemptor Hominis, says that Eucharistic adoration is the most fundamental duty in the life of the Christian and that liturgical celebration of the Eucharist and private worship of the Eucharist complement each other. He states: "Our communal worship at Mass must go together with our personal worship of Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration in order that our love may be complete."

This hour that Jesus wants you to spend with Him is spent any way you want to: reading the Holy Bible; praying the Holy Rosary; with your favorite prayer book; speaking to Jesus heart to Heart, as one does with a friend; you may be so tired or troubled or worn out, that you may just want to sit, and relax, and enjoy the sweet peace that comes from simply being with the One who loves you the most, Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.  We do ask, however, that you pray silently to avoid disturbing others.

Perpetual Adoration Prayer
Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, help us to spread the glory of Your Son through Perpetual Adoration. AMEN.
