The Lectors, who read liturgical readings from the ambo at Mass, are very important ministers in the Liturgy of the Word.  In proclaiming the Scriptures, the Lector announces the message of God's love for us and draws the assembly into the presence of Jesus, His Son.

Persons of high school age and older who wish to serve in this capacity are welcomed.  Training and orientation sessions are given periodically.

INSTRUCTIONAL INFORMATION

The primary responsibility of the Lectors is to proclaim the Word of God to the assembled congregation. Those who desire to serve in this ministry should be proficient in public speaking and be willing to conscientiously practice to effectively proclaim the message contained in the varied forms of writings. Those who wish to participate must attend training sessions and must be willing to be scheduled for any of the parish Masses.

Commissioned Lectors who wish to serve the Sunday celebration of Mass can pick the Mass time which they prefer and also select second and/or third preferences, if they wish. Schedules are prepared to assure that each Mass has the required number of Lectors available. Lectors are usually scheduled for the Mass they most prefer to attend.

For any unforeseen absences which arise after the schedule has been prepared, the Lector must arrange for a substitute by contacting another member of the ministry who would be willing to fill in.
