The music ministry at St. Hyacinth
Catholic Church has recently been restructured. It is transitional in nature and
will include two part-time music ministers to address the needs for our
liturgical music. St. Hyacinth parish welcomes Pamella Pitman and Jacque Darragh.
Pamella Pitman will be taking care of the Traditional Choir and aims to
re-establish the Children’s Choir for occasional services at the 8:30 a.m. Mass
and special occasions. Pamella has an Associates Degree in Music and has
previously worked as Music Director at St. Mary’s in La Porte, and St. Pius V in
Pasadena. She is a member of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians,
currently serving as Assistant Director for the Galveston-Houston Chapter.
Additionally, she has a music studio for children in Clear Lake. She is married
to Charles Pitman who works at NASA and teaches Physics at the University of
the Mainland. On Sundays, he spends time assisting Pamella, the two working as a
team.
Jacque Darragh has an extensive resume as a musician and, though she does
not have an academic degree in music, she has written original songs and
produced five albums. Since 1972, she has worked as an organist, pianist,
cantor, music director and liturgy coordinator at several churches, both
Catholic and non-Catholic. Jacque worked for some time as the music director at
St. Frances Cabrini and at the Cenacle Retreat Center. She is married to Thomas
Darragh, a Chiropractor in Pasadena. Jacque is eager to fill in as a part-time
music minister at St. Hyacinth at the 5:30 Saturday Vigil Mass and 5:30 Sunday
Mass. She is willing to help form a cantor program and, if possible, help
establish a Youth Choir for the 5:30 Sunday Mass.
TRADITIONAL CHOIR
10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass
The 10:00 Choir, consisting of more than twenty active members, sings at the
Offertory and sometimes during Communion at the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays. The
music style of this group is more traditional and formal. They welcome all
singers whether you read music or not, and require only your commitment to
attend rehearsals. The group tries to stay rehearsed for the upcoming five or
six Sundays. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m.
in Room 13.
CONTEMPORARY CHOIRS
11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass
Directed by Randy Royall, this contemporary group consisting
of guitars, piano, flute, and other instruments leads the assembly with a music
style that is upbeat, fresh, and invigorating. Rehearsal takes place during
10:00 a.m. Mass in the Youth Room in Guyot Hall.
5:30 p.m. Sunday Mass
This group is open to singers and instrumentalists of all ages, although
youth are especially welcomed. This is a fun way to earn service hours! Bring
yourself and your instrument and we will fit you in. You are always
welcome in this music ministry.
CHILDREN'S CHOIR
8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass
Children elementary through Junior High are welcome to participate.
Parental involvement is required.
Practice is on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. in Rm. 13. However, there are no
practices scheduled for the summer months, June-August.
